Allegations of Assault in Kandhamal District

Phulbani: A disturbing incident has emerged from Kandhamal district in Odisha, where a Class IX girl was reportedly raped inside a vehicle, as confirmed by local authorities on Sunday.

The police reported that the incident occurred on Friday evening after the girl had visited her elder sister's residence and subsequently attended the Ganesh Puja immersion procession at Daringbadi market.

While on her way back home, she accepted a ride from a man, who is accused of assaulting her in the car, according to the complaint lodged at the Daringbadi police station.

Authorities have initiated an investigation, which includes recording the victim's statement and conducting a medical examination.

The suspect, described as a married man, is currently on the run, as per police reports.

Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Harisha B C stated, "We are actively investigating the case and are determined to apprehend the accused promptly."
